(Doylestown/Harrisburg) Negotiating Teams for Bucks County and SEIU Local 668 will meet on Tuesday, September 17, to continue contract negotiations. Union members overwhelmingly rejected the County’s last proposal, with a 99% strike authorization vote earlier this Summer. At the last bargaining discussion on September 11, workers formally notified Bucks County of their intent to strike later this month.
Union members have been mobilizing in workplaces across Bucks County for a fair contract, holding informational pickets, and attending County Commissioners’ Meetings. Still, Bucks County’s negotiators have insisted on viciously attacking workers’ healthcare benefits.
The SEIU Local 668 Negotiating Team has called a strike for Friday, September 20.
“The County’s last proposal has demanded massive cuts to healthcare benefits. Union members worked with the County in our 2020 contract negotiations and accepted small wage increases due to the urgency of pandemic conditions. Bucks County’s essential public workers deserve a fair contract that protects our healthcare, not a cut to our hard-earned benefits,” stated Edward Berger, a SEIU 668 Negotiating Team Member and 24-year employee of Bucks County.
The workers have been without a contract since the beginning of 2024 despite nearly 15 months of contract bargaining discussions. SEIU Local 668 represents around 500 workers employed by numerous Bucks County agencies, including 911, Children and Youth Services, the Area Agency on Aging, and the IT Department, as well as Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol support, Early Intervention, and Developmental Programs.
